The Division of Economic Opportunity (DEO), under the supervision of the Business Administrator, administers the proper and efficient operation of the employment, training, job registry, and economic assistance functions of City government, shall act as liaison with the Jersey City Office of Employment and Training, and shall develop, implement and coordinate programs and policies to improve the availability of jobs and economic opportunities to City residents.

A major component of DEO's responsibilities is the Project Employment Opportunity Program. The purpose of this program is to publicize employment opportunities available through tax abated projects to Jersey City residents.  In compliance with the Project Employment and Contracting Agreement, developers and their commercial tenants are required to make employment opportunities available to Jersey City residents.  As positions become available through this agreement they will be publicized so Jersey City residents may apply for them.
