The Office of Equal Employment Opportunity/Affirmative Action (EEO/AA) is the only public entity in Hudson County which is certified by the New Jersey Department of Treasury as a Public Agency Compliance Office.
The City of Jersey City is an “Equal Employment Opportunity” Employer. It expressly prohibits any form of discrimination, including unlawful and prohibited harassment, based upon race, creed, color, natural origin, ancestry, sex or gender identity, or a typical hereditary cellular or blood trail, religion, age, handicap or disability (to the extent covered by New Jersey or federal statutes), marital status, sexual orientation, genetic test to the City, political activities or political affiliations, except provided by law, or any other status or condition protected by applicable law (collectively referred to as “Protected Characteristics”), including but not limited to the New Jersey Law Against Discrimination (N.J.S.A. 10:5-1, et seq.), as well as in Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, the Civil Rights Act of 1991, the Age Discrimination in Employment Act, the Americans with Disabilities Act (as amended), and the New Jersey Civil Service Act.
It is the responsibility of the EEO/AA to ensure equal access and equal opportunity in all employment, procurement and contracting transactions for and within Jersey City. Also, it warrants that employees, business enterprises in Jersey City, small businesses, women-owned businesses and minority businesses (MWBE) receive fairness and equity.
To ensure that various contractors abide by the terms of their Project Employment and Contracting Agreement and other Federal, State and Local regulations, EEO/AA publicizes business contracting opportunities that they have forwarded. We strongly encourage MWBE and other local businesses to submit quotations or bids for these opportunities. Please note that these are not bid solicitations for City government projects and this information is extended to the public on a non-discriminatory basis.
