Once a city driven by immigrants working in the shipping and manufacturing industries, Jersey City has transformed into a modern urban community. Old factories have been repurposed and reborn into office buildings and housing units, and abandoned rail yards are now landscaped parks. Jersey City’s vibrant arts cultures and diversity, and commitment to collaboration create an unparalleled quality of life for residents and businesses alike.

The Jersey City Police Department has participated in National Night Out, a successful nationwide community-building event, since its inception in 1984. Summer 2017's events were spread out in 4 different locations citywide to encourage all residents to engage in "America's Night Out Against Crime." Every year the police department provides music, food, family fun, and other materials to connect the community with the men and women in uniform who patrol their neighborhood.
