BIRTH

Birth records for those born in Jersey City from the year 1922 to present are available in the City Clerk Office.

You can request a Certified Copy of your Birth record in person or by mail.

Please bring the following with you:

  1. The completed REG 37A or 38A form (B in Spanish). All forms are below
  2. Valid Government issued photo ID (driver’s license, State ID, Passport); and
  3. Cash - $20 for the first copy, $10 for each additional copy.

BY MAIL

You may submit your application through the US Mail. Please include the following:

  1. The completed REG 37A or 38A form (B in Spanish). All forms are below
  2. If you have assumed your partner’s last name you must include a copy of your Marriage/Civil Union Certificate to link the name on your current ID to the name on your Birth Certificate
  3. Copy of VALID (not expired) Government issued photo ID with current address
  4. Payment—Check or Money Order made payable to the City of Jersey City Treasurer - $20 for the first copy, $10 each additional copy
  5. Self-Addressed Stamped Envelope—the address must match your address on your ID. If current address is not the same, provide proof of address with a current utility bill, bank account statement, etc.

MARRIAGE

Wedding Ceremonies may be performed at one of two locations:

Municipal Court
365 Summit Avenue
Jersey City NJ 07306

Municipal Council Chambers
280b Grove Street, 2nd floor
Jersey City NJ 07302

Fees for both locations:

  • One or both individuals are Jersey City residents  - $75
  • Neither individual is a resident of Jersey City - $100.

Fees must be paid at the City Clerk’s Office in advance of the ceremony. Call to schedule an appointment for payment.

PLEASE NOTE:
Only Judges of the Municipal Court may perform wedding ceremonies at the Municipal Court and only the Mayor, or ordained Council Members may perform wedding ceremonies at City Hall. Neither the Municipal Court nor City Hall are available to rent.
