OFFICE OF THE MUNICIPAL PROSECUTOR

Seal of The Municipal ProsecutorThe Office of the Municipal Prosecutor prosecutes all criminal offenses (including misdemeanors, referred to as “disorderly person offenses” under New Jersey law, and indictable crimes downgraded by the County Prosecutor), traffic violations (including driving while intoxicated), and quality of life ordinances (including summonses and complaints written by over ten state, county, and city law and code enforcement agencies) that occur in the city of Jersey City.

Office PhotoThe Office also chairs the Mayor's Quality of Life Taskforce, is an active participant in Jersey City Community Solutions (“Community Court”), operates a Veterans Diversion Program, and hosts a monthly resources day for victims of crime in conjunction with the Office of the Attorney General. Our courthouse recently surpassed others as the state’s highest-volume courthouse, and our municipal prosecutors handle each case with integrity, fairness, and a commitment to justice.

JCOMP Seal
Since July 2, 2018, the office has been led by Chief Prosecutor Jake Hudnut. Prosecutor Hudnut is committed to leading a progressive, problem-solving prosecutors office focused on safe streets, quality of life enforcement, and giving a “fair shake” to every defendant, victim, and witness who stand before the city’s courts.
