DEPARTMENT OF LAW
The Law Department represents the City of Jersey City in all its legal affairs. Its lawyers prepare all contracts and leases to which the City is a party, defend the City in litigation, draft ordinances and resolutions for the City Council, negotiate labor contracts, and bring affirmative lawsuits, such as environmental claims against polluters. The Law Department also advises the Mayor and City Council on the legal implications of policy initiatives and helps to develop them. The head of the Law Department is the Corporation Counsel.
