BOIL WATER ADVISORY FOR JERSEY CITY HEIGHTS

7/27/24 12:01AM

Jersey City, NJ - A boil water advisory has been issued for residents in the Jersey City Heights area. The boil water advisory was issued following a loss of water pressure. The water pump servicing the Jersey City Heights area lost power because of an electrical outage for approximately 90 minutes. Veolia immediately notified local officials and the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection (NJDEP). The boil water advisory will remain in effect until further notice.

This affects customers in the Jersey City Heights area: North of Route 139; east of Tonnele Avenue; south of Secaucus Road and 5th Street; and south and west of Paterson Plank Road, Ogden Avenue and Palisades Avenue.

Customers are ordered to boil their water for one minute for the following uses: drinking, cooking, baking, washing dishes, making ice cubes, taking medications, brushing teeth, washing food, mixing juices or drinks, feeding pets or other consumption. Water does not have to be boiled for showering or washing clothes.

Veolia emergency crews will collect water samples to monitor the safety of the drinking water and submit all results to the NJDEP for review. Once these results have been reviewed by the NJDEP, a decision will be made as to whether or not the boil water advisory can be lifted. Veolia will communicate that information to its customers.

It typically takes 24-48 hours to administer tests to samples and receive laboratory results, so customers in the affected area must continue to boil water until further notice.
