Division of Architecture

The Division of Architecture oversees city-owned parks and municipal building construction projects.

Architecture has overseen project design, procurement, public bidding, construction documentation and project management of various City projects, including the Municipal Services Complex (LEED Platinum), the New West District Police Precinct (LEED), the Lafayette Pool Complex, Engine 22 Historic Façade Restoration, Hamilton Park Rehabilitation, Riverview Park.

Architecture continues to have a lead role in the restoration and preservation of Jersey City historic sites such as the Van Wagenen House (aka Apple Tree House), and the Loew's Theater and Reservoir 3 - all of which are on listed the National Register of Historic Places.

Central Avenue Senior Center

Central Ave Senior Center photoArchitecture was tasked with designing a new, vibrant space that would be welcoming and accessible to the senior community. The new center now has an updated elevator, a modern design with two electric fireplaces and views of the New York skyline.

New Johnson Street Library

Johnson Ave library renderingAs this Ward F neighborhood has expanded, the community had needs for a library of its own. Architecture designed one with clean lines and lots of light. Their is meeting space for the public and an indoor place to stash your stroller or scooter while browsing the stacks.

Leonard Gordon Park, Phase 1

Leonard Gordon Park graphic

Leonard Gordon Park is one of Jersey City's oldest and most beloved parks. Well used by residents, Architecture's goal for Phase 1 improvements is to enhance site safety through user accessibility. New ADA paths and ramps, lighting, trees and green infrastructure to mitigate flooding will all be installed during Phase 1.

Riverview Fisk Park

Riverview renderingOn the corner of  Ogden Avenue and Mountain Road is patch of grass that doesn't get the opportunity to grow. Residents can't use it for much, so our goal was to make it a welcoming bit of open space, where families could sit and have a picnic lunch and children could play. After grading the site and installing new drainage, concrete walls and curbs, we will add new fencing and more trees, then lay artificial turf for a perpetually green, low maintenance lawn.
