Firefighter JumpsuitFire companies respond from 15 fire stations located throughout Jersey City.  All members of the Jersey City Fire Department receive first responder training, and all Fire Department vehicles are equipped with automatic defibrillators.   Last year, the Fire Department responded to over 24,000 calls for service.  With the growth of the City's waterfront, Jersey City is now home to 142 high-rise buildings including the tallest building in New Jersey, adding to the Fire Department’s formidable task of protecting the citizens of Jersey City.

APPLICANT REQUIREMENTS

  1. Be a U.S. citizen
  2. Be a resident of Jersey City
  3. Be 18-35 years of age (with exceptions)
  4. Have a high school diploma or G.E.D.
  5. Be highly motivated
  6. Possess a valid NJ driver's license
  7. Pass a background investigation

Appointees will be required to successfully complete the state Training mandated training program.
