Jersey City Housing Authority 

The Jersey City Housing Authority offers low-income and senior citizens affordable housing through HUD programs. The Section 8 Housing Assistance Payment Program helps families pay rent. The Public Housing Program offers affordable units managed by the JCRA. 

Hudson County Housing Finder

The Hudson County Housing Finder is a tool to search for affordable housing in Hudson County. Users can find housing based on amenity, location, income level, number of household members, etc. Applicants may apply to buildings directly.

New Jersey Housing Resource Center

The New Jersey Housing Resource Center website hosts resources for rental assistance, affordable housing, homeowner assistance, and emergency relief. It also has population-specific resources for seniors, veterans, people with disabilities, and people living with HIV/AIDS.

Garden State Episcopal CDC Coordinated Entry

Provides centralized, focused access to Homelessness Services for Homeless Individuals and Families throughout Hudson County. Services include comprehensive intake and assessment, as well as linkages to Case Management, Housing Opportunities, and Supportive Services. Call or visit:

Hudson County Office of Inclusion and Accessibility

Assists Hudson County residents with disabilities by increasing access to, and utilization of, community-based resources. OIA convenes an Advisory Board comprised of consumers, service providers, and other stakeholders to help coordinate services, identify gaps in resources and determine priorities for Hudson County.

Hyacinth  

Hyacinth provides support for people living with HIV. Services include housing placement, emergency financial assistance, medical & mental health services, free & confidential testing, and more. For more information:

Hudson County Alliance to End Homelessness (HCAEH)  

Identifies the gaps and needs of homeless households in Hudson County and participate in the process of prioritizing local and state funding to meet these needs; coordinate citywide applications for homeless housing and service funding, including but not limited to Hudson County’s annual application for HUD McKinney-Vento funding; and track trends and adjust priorities to meet the changing needs of homeless households. Hudson County Emergency Rental Assistance (ERA) provides a list of rental assistance resources within New Jersey. For more information:

The Waterfront Project   

The Waterfront Project provides free civil legal services and HUD-certified housing counseling to low-and moderate-income families and individuals in Hudson County, ensuring access to justice, protecting housing rights, and promoting stability for vulnerable communities. For more information:

Need Legal Advice?

If you need legal advice and do not know how to find a lawyer, the Hudson County Bar Association Lawyer Referral Service can help! LRS office hours are 10 am to 3 pm Monday through Friday.

Landlord/Tenant administers and enforces the Rent Control Ordinance, Chapter 260 of the Jersey City Municipal Code and provides education, information and referrals to city residents in connection with landlord/tenant issues (link: NJ Courts).
