Mayor Fulop Opens 6th Vaccination Site to Prioritize newly Eligible Frontline Workers

JERSEY CITY - Mayor Steven M. Fulop and the Jersey City Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) announce the opening of the City’s sixth vaccination site located near the Marin Boulevard Light Rail Station as New Jersey’s eligibility requirements expand to frontline workers, including all food and restaurant workers, grocery store workers, porters, hospitality workers, warehouse workers, those in the medical supply chain, and more. In step, the additional site opening today will significantly increase access and provide priority for these frontline workers.

Two of the City-run sites will dedicate 1,000 J&J vaccines for those interested, prioritizing workers who have limited time off: 100 Marin Boulevard and 28 Paterson Street (Connors Center).

“As we saw initially with our testing efforts, the more you increase access to these services, the more people are going to be inclined to get vaccinated, which ultimately increases our safety overall and accelerates our return to normalcy,” said Mayor Fulop. “These frontline workers have remained at the forefront throughout this entire pandemic, making sure everyone has had continued access to the vital goods and services our residents rely on. And so now that they are eligible, we want to return the favor and make sure they get the vaccines they need to remain safe at work.”

The Department of Health and Human Services is operating a Mobile Site that, to date, has served seven onsite senior buildings so far, 40 homeless, and dozens of homebound residents. The mobile operations serve to greatly expand outreach into the community with improved direct access for residents, ultimately encouraging more and more people to get vaccinated.

The seven City-run vaccination sites include:

  • 140 MLK Drive (Mary McLeod Bethune Community Center)
  • 335 Bergen Ave (Maureen Collier Senior Center)
  • 28 Paterson Street (Joseph Connors Senior Center)
  • 100 Marin Blvd (Marin Lightrail Station)
  • 164 Laidlaw Avenue (PS #26)
  • 35 Colgate Street (Ferris High School)

“Since last summer, we’ve been planning our comprehensive vaccination program in order to streamline the process for residents, businesses, and the community as a whole to get back on our feet as swiftly as possible. We are working with Bespoke Health to run and manage the sites and have been successful in having zero waste at any of our sites,” said HHS Director Stacey Flanagan.

Per State guidelines, beginning Monday, March 29, 2021, the following frontline essential workers will be eligible for vaccination:

  • Food production, agriculture, and food distribution
  • Eldercare and support
  • Warehousing and logistics
  • Social services support staff
  • Elections personnel
  • Hospitality
  • Medical supply chain
  • Postal and shipping services
  • Clergy
  • Judicial system

HHS has advised employers of the specific phone number dedicated to the newly eligible frontline workers to register for an appointment. The frontline workers must bring a pay stub to their scheduled appointment.
