Mayor Solomon to Host Community Town Halls on 2026 Budget and Tax Increase

Residents invited to ask questions, share concerns, and hear directly from the Mayor on the City's fiscal recovery

JERSEY CITY, N.J. (June 23, 2026) — Mayor James Solomon today announced a series of community town halls across Jersey City to discuss the 2026 budget, the proposed tax increase, and the City's plan to climb out of the structural deficit it inherited from the prior administration.

"I know this tax increase is painful, and residents deserve a chance to engage their representatives directly and ask the hard questions," said Mayor James Solomon. "It is my job to be honest about the problems our city faces, and I know the people of Jersey City will be direct with their questions and concerns. I want to hear what people are worried about, and I want them to hear directly from me about the choices we're making and why."

The town halls are open to all residents. At each, the Mayor and senior staff will explain how the City reached a roughly $255 million deficit, what the Administration has done to reduce it, and what the proposed 20% increase to the municipal tax rate means for residents. The bulk of each session will be reserved for residents to ask questions and share their concerns directly.

The town halls will be held on the following dates – locations in the four corners of Jersey City will be announced shortly:

July 7th at 6:30PM
July 8th at 6:30PM
July 11th at 11:00AM
July 16th at 6:30PM

Since taking office in January, the Administration has reduced the inherited gap by approximately $55 million through administrative action, is pursuing new non-tax revenue and accountability from developers and has requested $120 million in state aid and loans to be included in the State’s budget.
