Staff Conduct & Professionalism

⏱ ~25 min👥 All Staff (required)📋 3 sections

Code of Conduct

JC Rise staff are representatives of the City of Jersey City and are held to the highest standards of professional conduct at all times — on site, during field trips, on social media, and in the community.

Required Conduct: Professional communication, punctuality, dress code compliance, no personal cell phone use during supervision, appropriate physical and emotional boundaries with campers.

Prohibited Conduct (grounds for immediate termination):

    • Corporal punishment of any kind
    • Profanity or degrading language directed at campers
    • Unauthorized one-on-one interactions with campers outside of staff sight lines
    • Sharing camper information on personal social media
    • Being under the influence of alcohol or substances while on duty

Social Media & Communication

Social Media: Staff may not post photos or identifying information of JC Rise campers on personal social media under any circumstances — regardless of parent consent. All media featuring campers must be submitted to the Recreation Department communications team.

With Families: Communicate through your Site Director unless specifically authorized otherwise. Never make promises regarding programming, policies, or discipline without Site Director approval.

With Colleagues: Disagreements between staff must be resolved privately and professionally — never in front of campers. JC Rise depends on a unified team.

Staff Wellness & Self-Care

Working with youth is deeply rewarding — and demanding. JC Rise is committed to supporting staff wellbeing throughout the summer.

  • Use designated break periods — step away and recharge

  • Communicate signs of burnout to your Site Director early

  • Practice the same emotional regulation strategies you teach campers

  • Celebrate wins — yours and your team's — every day
